This course teaches students how to use scenario planning techniques as a part of strategic management. Whilst conventional forecasting techniques rely largely on extrapolation of historical trend data, this course focuses on the use of backcasting methods in strategic planning. Such methods can be used to develop contextually sensitive strategy programs and to assess unexpected strategic drivers when developing long-term corporate strategy. The course combines theory, method and case studies on how to design strategic scenarios.
