The course focuses on trends in entrepreneurship research, and it is a learning platform for students planning to write their Proseminar or Master Thesis in Entrepreneurship and Management. The course consists of seminar sessions. Each seminar has an independent topic for which preparation in form of literature review and a written assignment is required. Course is compulsory for students majoring in entrepreneurship. This course will help students with their Master's thesis writing.

This course takes various perspectives in studying creativity and creative thinking in relation to management, entrepreneurship and innovation. Your creative and innovative capabilities are improved during the course. The character of the course demands active student participation during exercises and team work.

Within this course, we examine the psychology of the entrepreneurial mind, placing a special emphasis on the subconscious processes together with their origin and connection to an individual’s thoughts and actions.  The course is structured as a multiple-case-study research project. This structure supports the aim to expand your learning from instrumental knowledge acquisition to an explorative, reflective journey into the roots of entrepreneurial behavior, possibly with you connecting your findings with the ones of fellow students. The overall purpose of this course is not to provide you with definite answers; it is to trigger your curiosity and urge for further exploration.

One of the most essential question for corporations in the 21st century is how to foster a culture of continuous entrepreneurship within their organizations, and how to leverage that to develop and launch profitable innovative projects and new business activities.

This course lays the ground for students' potential to work as innovation managers, project leaders, and change agents in their future career. The course is designed to provide students with insights into the problems and opportunities involved in managing entrepreneurship in existing organizations.

The course tightly follows the course 18022: Launching a New Business I. It offers customized mentoring from professional entrepreneurs and investors on a high potential and feasible entrepreneurial idea, with the aim of developing it into a viable early venture. The final ideas will be presented to a panel of experienced judges and have the opportunity to attract further interest and resources. The course is provided in collaboration with Aalto University.

Kursens föreläsningar behandlar processer som leder fram till start av ny affärsverksamhet, centrala analyser för att värdera en affärsidé samt strategier och verktyg som entreprenörer kan använda sig av för resursanskaffning och resurshantering. Kursen består av föreläsningar, fallövningar, reflektionsuppgifter samt ett grupparbete som berör kommersialisering av en innovation/uppfinning.

Kursen kan tas som en del av studiehelheten i företagsansvar.

Corporate governance nowadays aims at establishing mechanisms by which firms try to optimize the use of managerial talent in business, the goal being maximizing the firm value within the constraints given by the legal system. For achieving these goals, it is crucial to understand the fundamental drivers of managerial psychology and how to manage the uncertainty surrounding the organization. These aspects are discussed in this class.

Particularly, the class will center around two areas. The discussion and analysis of the most important driving forces that create uncertainty in the business environment and how to overcome these by applying scenario-based strategic planning. This will enable students to create flexible strategic options to position companies for times of uncertainty.

The second focus area of the course will be the discussion of psychological drivers of decision making in individual managers and teams. This will provide students with an in depths understanding of the important psychological determinants of choice and how strategic decisions can be optimized in a way that psychological biases are minimized in decision processes.

This course is designed to explore several dimensions of entrepreneurship. It provides a comprehensive foundation for additional learning in the context of more specific entrepreneurship courses. Key words during the course are creativity, business opportunities, business model development, execution, testing and evaluation. We learn by testing different kinds of methods and from failures.

A special emphasis is put on start-up like ventures. The idea is also to introduce students to different creativity methods and innovation techniques. An important part is also to reflect on the kinds of assumptions we make about how people behave.

The course can be taken as part of the Study Module in Corporate Responsibility.

This course deals with the process of creating and developing new business ideas, and is build up around the following themes: 1) Introduction into early-stage business venturing; 2) Approaching different understandings of a business idea; 3) Opening up the creativity box for planning a new venture; 4) Recognizing and evaluating opportunities in the pre-startup phase; 5) Understanding the market and competition for a new venture; 6) Venture idea creation through lean start-up principles and the business model canvas approach; 7) Validating and promoting business idea through real-life case scenarios (in teams); 8) Promoting new venture idea through a convincing business action plan. In sum, the course offers an incredible chance for multi-disciplinary teams to learn and experience how to develop a sound business idea in form of a concrete business plan. Individual course packages are supported by real-life entrepreneurs and business experts.

This course is designed to explore several dimensions of entrepreneurship. It provides a comprehensive foundation for additional learning in the context of more specific entrepreneurship courses. Key words during the course are creativity, business opportunities, business model development, execution, testing and evaluation.

In this course we will study the opportunity process and its different sub-processes. The course consists of lectures, during which we will cover recent theoretical material and practice applying the theory into practice.  Students are expected to prepare for the lectures by reading articles. The course includes a group work, in which the students work together with researchers from the Helsinki University. The key task is to evaluate the potential of opportunities and find suitable routes for their commercialization. The course is highly interactive and active participation in all areas of the course is desirable.

The course kick-off takes place on 29th of February from 16.00-19.00 in auditorium 411. The rest of the sessions are in period 4.

Syftet med kursen är att du producerar en godkänd kandidatavhandling av vetenskapligt och språkligt god kvalitet. Du tränar och utvecklar en förmåga att självständigt analysera och lösa problem inom ämnesområdet samt producerar ett skriftligt vetenskapligt arbete. Observera att kursen är mycket arbetsintensiv redan från första kursdagen.

Kandidatavhandlingen skrivs på svenska och kräver godkänt mognadsprov. I regel skall mognadsprovet genomgå både sak- och språkgranskning. Observera att denna kurs ges i samverkan mellan management- och entreprenörskapsinstitutionen. Som entreprenörskapsstudent skall du därför självregistrera dig i Moodle under kurskoden 22001.

Kursen 18003 "Affärsutveckling och framgångsfaktorer" sträcker sig över perioden 24.10-09.12 och avhandlar centrala aspekter för framgångsrik affärsutveckling.

This course will build students’ entrepreneurial attitudes, such as achievement orientation and ambition, self-confidence, action orientation, hard working and creativity. Also students’ entrepreneurial skills, such as creative problem solving, negotiating, selling, persuading and managing a project are developed during the course.

In this course, the students act as independent consultants responsible for meeting the requirements of a client organisations and the school. During the course, 2 to 3 students team up and find an organisation with a problem to be solved, a task to be performed or a research project to be carried out. The students then prepare a plan for a consulting project matching the need of the client and sell the project to the client organization. Team negotiates the content, schedule and price of the project. After completing the project and presenting the results to the client, the students hand in a formal report to the school.

Different paradigms for strategic analyses will be discussed and connected to the role of the board. Work of the board both in large and small firms will be examined.
