Den immaterialrättsliga regleringen ger ensamrätter. Syftet med denna kurs är att studera samspelet mellan dessa regler samt hur de styr företagets val på marknaden.

The course provides a comprehensive basic understanding of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and how they are utilised in a business environment. It focuses primarily on presenting various forms of IPRs that have a significant strategic as well as financial role for businesses. The course covers relevant legal sources (legislation, court cases etc.) as well as IPRs in practice. Practical examples on the relevant issues will shed light on the real-world questions concerning for example patents, trademarks, utility models and copyright.

The course provides the participants with an extensive introduction to IPRs. Thus, a knowledge of legal methods or having completed legal studies is not required for enrolling on the course.

The course can be taken by students both from Helsinki and Vaasa.

Denna digitala kurs om handelsrättens forskningsmetodik är gemensam för Vasa och Helsingfors. På kursen lär du dig om forskningens vetenskaplighet, handelsrättens traditionella forskningslinjer, aspekter som är kännetecknande för handelsrätten som en vetenskaplig disciplin samt sättet att använda vetenskapliga metoder i handelsrättslig forskning. We live in a digital world. Commercial law plays a key role in the development of digital economy. On this course, we explore some of the key aspects of digital economy through the lens of commercial law. We will also study its wider impact on society. Since the context is digital, this course has no lectures in class and the exam is an e-exam in an examination studio.

This course can be taken by students both from Helsinki and Vaasa.

Analyzing the principles contained in GATT, GATS, the TRIPS Agreements and the Doha Declaration will provide you with a wider view on the link between international trade, and both importance and challenges related to intellectual property rights.

NOTE: The main focus of this course is WTO Law, the relationship between IP and trade is explored but this is by no means an IP focused course.

Climate change is a threat to civilisation. We need an energy transition, renewable energy sources and new business models to cope with the threat. In practice, our future depends on the efficiency of electricity generation, use and storage. This commercial law course will examine electricity markets, electricity trade, electricity generation from renewable sources, and emissions from the particular perspective of electricity and tech companies. The course will focus on the North-Western Europe (NEW) region.

The course can be taken as part of the study module in Corporate Responsibility.

The course can be taken by students both from Helsinki and Vaasa.

The course changes name to Climate Change and Electricity Trade from 1.8.2020.
